Professor Shi Junguo, Institute of Industrial Economics, Jiangsu University, ‘Research on the Mechanism of Technological Catch-up driven by Disruptive innovation’ has been approved by the National Natural Science Foundation of 2021 Youth Science Fund project, ‘Research on the mechanism and path of Technological Catch-up driven by Disruptive innovation’ has been approved by the Ministry of Education of 2021 Humanities and Social Science Research Youth Fund project!

Among the two projects, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) project focuses on constructing a computer multi-agent simulation model of disruptive innovation and technological catch-up from the endogenous perspective of consumer preference, revealing the micro mechanism of disruptive innovation driving technological catch-up of latecomers, and focusing on basic research. The general research project of humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education aims to explore the possible paths and constraints for latecomers to achieve technological catch-up, with more emphasis on applied research. The two projects complement each other. Through the research on the mechanism and path of driving technological catch-up by disruptive innovation, it is helpful to guide Chinese high-tech enterprises to catch up with the opportunity window brought by disruptive innovation, prevent them from falling into the ‘catch-up trap’ and enhance their innovation autonomy from the enterprise level. From the industrial level, it is beneficial to explore the path of disruptive innovation and technological catch-up, boost the transformation and upgrading of China's economic and industrial structure, and cultivate new development drivers. At the national level, it is conducive to the cultivation and development of national advanced design and deployment of disruptive innovation, preventing the recurrence of the ‘SMIC’ incident, striving to realize the autonomy and control of key core technologies, and constantly enhancing the initiative of development.

Professor Shi Junguo has been devoted to basic research work in the fields of disruptive innovation and industrial organization theory, technological innovation and economic catch-up under open economy conditions, multi-agent simulation model, etc. for many years.
